Rooms: voice chat with a text channel in the Android app
A room is like an open meeting place for talking: whoever comes in listens and can join the conversation, with a text channel running alongside. In the Friendstime app you start public or private rooms. Here is how it works and what you can set.
Creating a room
You find voice rooms in the Android app under “Rooms”. You create a room with a name, description, category, icon and colour and make it public or private. A room created in the app holds up to 20 members. Category, icon and colour help others see at a glance what your room is about.
Public or private
Public rooms appear in the list to discover, so others can find them too. A private room can only be entered with an invitation: the owner invites friends, the invited person gets a notification and decides whether to join or decline. An invitation is valid for 30 days.
Voice and text channel
Every room has a text channel next to the voice channel. That way people who cannot talk right now can still take part, and links or notes stay in the room. In the voice channel you mute yourself or turn off the sound of the others.
How the connection works
The voice connection runs over WebRTC, usually directly between the participants’ devices. You do not need any extra software. Like calls, rooms are not end-to-end encrypted; discuss confidential matters in a private chat instead.
Rooms or voice channels in groups?
Rooms stand on their own: you do not need a group to start one. If the conversation belongs to an existing community, its admins set up voice channels inside the group, with up to 50 seats, push-to-talk and a minimum role. The two complement each other.
