Post publicly, keep it factual: Friendstime as an X alternative

Sharing short thoughts, following discussions, staying up to date on topics: that is what many people use X, formerly Twitter, for. Friendstime is a social network from Germany where you can do this too. This page shows which features exist and how Friendstime deals with misinformation.

Public or friends only

For every post you decide who may see it: “Public”, “Friends” or “Only me”, and in the Android app also “Close friends”. A post can contain text, several images, a video, a GIF or a poll. Text and visibility can be changed later.

Hashtags and mentions

Hashtags assign posts to a topic, and @ mentions other members. Anyone mentioned gets a notification. If someone bothers you with constant mentions, mute or block them. Under a hashtag you find more posts on the same topic.

Chronological instead of algorithmic

The feed is set to “Recommended” by default; popular posts move up there by as much as eight hours. On the web choose “Newest” instead, in the Android app the chronological feed, and the newest post is on top. Ads are marked as “Sponsored” and are not based on a profile about you.

Fact checks and moderation

Posts can carry a fact-check note such as disputed or misinformation; in the recommended feed they move back. In the Android app, members can also vote on whether a claim is accurate. Public posts also get an automatic fact check using an AI service from Google (Gemini). Reports, for example for hate speech, are decided by people on the moderation team, not by a machine.

What is different

Friendstime is not a pure short-message service but a social network with a messenger, groups, pages, events and a marketplace. A username and an email address are enough for an account. There is no connection to X or the fediverse; you reach other Friendstime members.
