Starting a group chat: family, crew or project
For your family, your team or holiday planning you do not need a separate service. In the Friendstime messenger you set up a chat group in a few steps. This page shows what groups in the messenger can do and how to leave again.
Creating a group
In the messenger, choose “Create new group”, enter a group name such as “Family” or “Project”, pick the members and tap “Create group”. A chat group holds up to 50 other people. It is something different from a community group with its own area for posts, which you start under “Groups”.
Mention and address people directly
Type @ and a username to mention a member; after the @, Friendstime suggests the group’s members. Anyone mentioned gets a marked notification, in the current Android app even when the group is muted.
Read by, typing and voice messages
For your own messages, the Android app shows who has read them; only members who have switched on “Send read receipts” appear as having read. In chat groups you record voice messages in the Android app, and the messenger in the browser displays and plays them. When someone is recording a voice message in the app, the others see a note, in groups also in the browser.
Polls, Moments and group calls
On the web you start a poll in the group chat; in the Android app you send it through the messenger, and voting works in both. With Moments you play small games, from Match to a countdown. Group calls are started in the Android app from the group chat; while one is running, the chat list shows that a group call is in progress and you can tap to join.
Encryption and leaving
The group’s text is end-to-end encrypted with ML-KEM-768 once all members use a current app or the web messenger; until then it is not. For attachments and calls in groups we do not promise end-to-end encryption. You leave a chat group in the Android app through the group settings and on the web with the button in the chat header; on the web Friendstime asks you to confirm first.
