Editing photos on Friendstime: the tools at a glance

You do not need a second app to straighten out a photo before posting: Friendstime offers cropping, rotating, filters and more while you create a post — especially in detail in the Android app.

In the browser: rotate, crop, filter

When you create a post in the browser, every image has its own buttons: rotate by 90°, flip horizontally, crop (you drag the area you want) and apply a filter. The choices are Original, B/W, Sepia, Bright, Dark, Warm, Cold and Contrast. With the “ALT” badge on the image you add an image description for people who use a screen reader.

In the Android app: a full photo editor

Above a single photo in the post editor there is an edit icon (not for GIFs); in chat the “Send photo” dialog offers an “Edit” button, and in stories the photo can be cropped as well. The editor crops to the aspect ratios 1:1, 4:5, story (9:16) and 16:9, rotates by 90°, flips, applies one of ten filters, lets you draw freehand with your finger and places text on the photo in 13 styles. The result is baked into the image when you save.

Filters with a strength slider

The app's ten filters are Original, B/W, Sepia, Warm, Cool, Bright, Vivid, Fade, Cinema and Night. As soon as you pick a filter, a slider from 0 to 100 percent appears so you can dose the effect. The browser offers the same ten filters with a strength slider when you create a story with a single image.

Stories, collages and location data

When you create a photo story in the app you can also draw (five colours, three stroke widths, undo), add text stickers, and place emoji, poll and question stickers, then move, enlarge and rotate them. If you choose 2 to 4 photos, Friendstime combines them into one square image. The app's “Memory collage” bundles 2–4 photos into one tile to save or share. You cannot draw on videos. From uploaded photos in JPEG, PNG and WebP format, Friendstime automatically removes location data (GPS) and other metadata; what is visible in the picture stays visible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit photos in the browser too?

To a degree: for a post you can rotate, flip, crop and filter (eight filters), and for stories there are ten filters with a strength slider. Drawing and text directly on the photo are offered by the photo editor of the Android app.

Do I have to remove location data from photos myself?

No. Friendstime removes GPS coordinates and other metadata from photos in JPEG, PNG and WebP format when you upload them, without re-compressing the image. This applies, among others, to posts, stories, profile pictures, marketplace listings and photos sent from the app.

Can I add image descriptions?

Yes. In the post editor, in the browser as well as in the app, each image has an “ALT” button for an image description that screen readers read out.
