Friendship ember: days in a row in the chat

Writing every day keeps the ember alive. Friendstime counts the consecutive calendar days with at least one direct message between you and a friend, and shows a level for it in the chat header.

What is counted

A day counts if at least one direct message passed between the two of you on that calendar day, in either direction. Group chats do not count. The last 200 days are evaluated.

The six levels

Spark from the first day, ember from 3 days, flame from 7, fire from 14, inferno from 30 and eternal ember from 100 days in a row. The level appears as a small chip with a flame and a number in the header of the direct chat.

When the ember goes out

The ember is alive as long as the last shared day was today or yesterday. If it is further back, the counter is cold and starts again at one with the next exchange. There are no reminders and no pressure; without a living ember the chip stays hidden.

What is stored for it

Nothing extra. The ember is computed when the chat opens, from the timestamps of your messages, and only looks at conversations of the signed-in account.

Frequently asked questions

Does my friend see the same number?

Yes. The ember belongs to the friendship and is computed for both of you from the same days.

Do pictures or voice messages count too?

Every message in the direct chat counts. What matters is the day, not the type of message.

Is the ember in the app as well?

Yes. The Android app shows it in the chat header like the website; both ask the same counter.
