Close friends: sharing with your inner circle
Not every photo is meant for all your friends. With the “Close friends” list you share posts with a small selection that you choose yourself. Here is how to manage the list in the Android app and how the visibility works.
What the list is
“Close friends” is a list you manage yourself. You add up to 50 people, and posts with the “Close friends” visibility are seen only by them and you. You build the list from your friends: anyone you add must be a confirmed friend. Typical examples are family, best friends or the people you are sharing a special experience with right now.
Managing the list in the app
In the Android app, open the “Close friends” area from your profile and choose “Add” or “Remove” there. The app shows how many people are on the list; 50 is the limit. If you remove someone, that person stops seeing your close-friends posts right away.
Choosing it when you post
When creating a post in the Android app you pick the “Close friends” visibility in addition to “Public”, “Friends” and “Only me”. You can change the visibility later via “Edit”. If a post reaches fewer people than expected, that is exactly where to look.
Not the same as friend categories
Categories such as Family, Best friend or Colleague, which you can assign to a friend on their profile on the web, are something else. They describe your relationship but do not control who sees a post. For visibility, only your “Close friends” list counts.
What the list does not replace
Close-friends posts are also stored on the Friendstime server and are not end-to-end encrypted. Anyone allowed to see them can photograph them or pass them on. So share confidential things in a private chat, whose text is end-to-end encrypted once both have a key.
