A feed without the algorithm: newest on top
Many networks decide for you what you see first. On Friendstime the feed is set to “Recommended” by default, but you can switch to a purely chronological order at any time. Here is how “Recommended” sorts and how to switch on the chronological feed.
How “Recommended” sorts
“Recommended” is based on time. Posts with many likes, comments and reactions, or posts that are shared a lot, move up by as much as eight hours, though. Posts with a fact-check note such as misinformation move back. There is no behavioural or interest profile about you behind it.
Switching in the browser
Above the feed on the start page you choose between “Recommended” and “Newest”. You find the same choice in the settings under appearance as the feed order, with an algorithmic default or a chronological option. Your browser remembers this setting for a year; on another device you set it there again.
Switching in the Android app
In the Android app you switch on the chronological feed in the settings. Then the newest post is on top there too, without popular posts moving forward.
What appears in the feed
In the feed you see what your friends share, plus posts from your groups and from pages you have liked. Ads marked as “Sponsored” can appear between posts. They are not based on a profile about you but preferably on the surrounding content; otherwise they rotate at random.
More calm in the feed
With the word filter in the privacy settings you hide posts containing certain words; it applies in the browser where you set it up. If someone annoys you, mute them, and you no longer get push or email notifications from that person. In the short-video area VideoTime, “Friends” also shows your friends’ videos in chronological order.
