Scheduling posts: write now, publish later

A birthday greeting at midnight, a club announcement on Monday morning or a holiday greeting while you are offline: with scheduling you write a post now and let it appear at a fixed time. Here is how it works in the browser and in the Android app.

Scheduling a post

In the browser, open the window for creating a post, tap “Schedule” and choose a date and time under “Publish on”. The time is in your device’s time zone. In the Android app you also pick a time when creating a post. The same rules apply in the app and on the web.

The limits

You can schedule at the earliest one minute in the future and at most 365 days ahead. If the time is invalid or in the past, Friendstime tells you instead of publishing the post right away. Scheduling also takes the change between summer and winter time into account, so the post appears at the time you chose.

What happens until then

Scheduled posts only appear in the feed at the chosen time. Until then, others see them neither on your profile nor in search or under hashtags. Notifications, for example to mentioned people or to people following a hashtag, only go out on publication. In the feed, the post then carries the scheduled time, not the time you wrote it.

Managing scheduled posts

In the browser, the “Scheduled posts” list shows what is still pending. You edit or delete a scheduled post through the menu on the post; removing the schedule takes it back. You choose visibility as always: “Public”, “Friends”, “Only me” or, in the app, “Close friends”.

What scheduling cannot do

Cross-posting to further areas at the same time is not available for scheduled posts; share the post after it is published. For pages of clubs and businesses, scheduling is especially handy because announcements appear on time even when nobody is at the computer.
